Masdar Farid Mas'udi is known comes from the "traditional Islam" because of the dominant schools of thought in the various explanations of his ideas. He also proved to have a very progressive thinking, critical, and even radical-transformative, while those who exceed this always touted "Islamic modernist" and "Islamic reformer". The dimensions of  his thoughts would have to be an important record for the academic world, because it means he (along with Abdurrahman Wahid before) has penetrated (and even change some of) the myth-academic discourse on Islamic boarding schools that have been suggested conservative and anti-change to the contrary. It was here, but was intended to understand and elaborate, and certainly do a number of criticisms, of Islamic thoughts Masdar, the authors also want to note a development of contemporary Islamic thought in Indonesia today.
